Tiny Wheels, BIG Journey: Joel and Shane Set Off on 150-Mile Scooter Challenge for Baby Loss Charity

Two friends from the UK are preparing for an ambitious and unconventional charity adventure that promises equal parts determination, discomfort, and entertainment.

Joel Redhead and Shane Cole are taking on Tiny Wheels BIG Journey — a 150-mile coast-to-coast trek from West Kirby beach on the west coast to Hull in the east, travelling entirely on children’s push scooters. The challenge begins on Saturday, 13 June 2026.

The pair are raising funds for Chasing Rainbows, a charity that supports families affected by baby loss and infertility. The organisation, founded by Sam Catanach, provides vital emotional support, raises awareness around these often-taboo subjects, and advocates for better recognition of all forms of baby loss.

Building on Last Year’s Success

This isn’t their first rodeo. Last year, Joel and Shane completed a major walking challenge from Coventry to Wales, followed by climbing Mount Snowdon. Their efforts raised tens of thousands of pounds for Chasing Rainbows in memory of Jude Rocco Ross — a cause close to Joel’s family.

The money from that fundraiser enabled the charity to secure premises for three years, employ staff, expand services with a growing global reach, and support many more families.

Speaking about their motivation, the duo said they are committed to standing by the charity during its growth phase:

“We saw the true impact of all the work Sam does and the sheer amount of families she helps… What is important now is that we stand by them in this growth to ensure they can continue all of the work they do.”

The Challenge Ahead

With their trademark self-deprecating humour, Joel and Shane admit they’re entering this new adventure with “the same experience as last time — NONE.” They plan to “wing it every step of the way,” staying in basic 1-star hotels and sharing the chaos online for supporters to follow.

The route will take them through various towns and landscapes over several days, highlighting the physical absurdity of scooting long distances on tiny wheels while shining a light on an important cause.

Why It Matters

The statistics around baby loss in the UK are sobering:

•  Around 8 babies are stillborn every day

•  1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage

•  An estimated 100,000 miscarriages occur each year

•  4,500 babies die in late pregnancy or shortly after birth annually

Chasing Rainbows works to ensure no family feels alone in their grief and to break the silence that often surrounds these experiences.

As of now, the JustGiving page has already raised over £23,000 (plus Gift Aid), showing strong early support from the public.

How You Can Help

You can support Joel and Shane by:

•  Donating via their JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/tinywheelsbigjourney

•  Sharing their story on social media

•  Following their journey updates (expected to be entertaining)

Whether it’s a few pounds or simply spreading the word, every contribution helps Chasing Rainbows continue its vital work.

Joel and Shane’s willingness to push themselves — quite literally on children’s scooters — demonstrates how powerful personal challenges can be when paired with purpose. Their story reminds us that even the smallest wheels can help drive big change.
